Title: Grass Dance
Type: Mixed Media
Grass Dance is one of the most ancient dances to survive into modern
times. Some say the swaying movement of the dancers is a gentle expression of
prairie grass on a wind-swept day. The fringes and ribbons enhance the graceful
movement of the Grass Dancers' bodies as they sway in an imagined breeze
keeping rhythm with the drums.
Some Indian people think this dance also symbolizes the warriors' celebration
of victory over an enemy, the braided grass representing the scalps of the fallen foes.
